Our mission
Visual acuity is of great importance in children's development and learning and disorders are difficult to detect in children. In addition, in Brazil, access to eye exams is difficult and expensive.
Our aim is to reduce the barriers that prevent children in Rio from accessing vision screening. This helps reduce the burden that vision problems have on the lives of children and parents.
What we do
1. Ophthalmological screenings and examinations
Escolhares teams go to schools in Rio De Janeiro to conduct vision screenings on children. Those who have been diagnosed with a disorder are followed up and additional eye examinations are carried out to find out exactly what is happening.
2. Awareness of vision problems
Throughout their journey, children are made aware of vision problems. Ophthalmologists also work to educate children about vision problems, which can have a different impact on their lives and those of their loved ones.
3. Delivery of glasses
At the end of the week, children diagnosed with a vision disorder are offered a pair of glasses adapted to their needs.
